ABC is a basic technical and visual education in light design. The workshop’s main objective was to teach participants how to build and maintain light equipment in their local environment and with existing means. The workshop was held on three occasions over a period of six months, in Alexandria, El Minia and Cairo. In accordance with the special interests of the participants, a personal assignment was given to each of them, this to be carried out in the interims between the three phases of the program.
Participants presented their final work, a light exhibition; partly inspired by the assignments they had been given, and based on ‘The Dilemma of The Sultan’ a play by Tawfiq al-Hakim. The demonstration used a mixture of theatre and everyday light sources, and all participants contributed with both visual ideas and technical work.
ABC Light Workshop Program was a joint project between Studio Oscuro, Studio Emad Eddin, I-ACT, The Jesuit Culture Centre and The Jesuits and Brothers Association for Development. It was funded by SIDA through the Dramatic Institute in Stockholm.
