The Royal Court Theatre is Britain’s leading national company dedicated to new work by innovative writers from the UK and around the world. The theatre’s pivotal role in promoting new voices is undisputed – the New York Times described it as ‘the most important theatre in Europe’.

Elyse came to Egypt to get a sense of what theatre practitioners in Egypt are interested in, to get to know their projects and to understand what they are passionate about. To achieve this, she focused on the following:

• Current theatre movement: the contemporary theatre culture
• Meeting established and young theatre practitioners, focusing on writers
• Theatre infrastructure: venues, institutions, theatre practitioners, etc.

Elyse participated in a series of roundtable discussions with theatre practitioners and artists throughout the duration of her visit. The aim of these discussions was to encourage sharing of knowledge, debate and creative partnerships.
