On 29th of March 2017 at Studio Emad Eddin

In the course of this workshop, participants learned about the possibilities of animating the inanimate matter that is puppetry. From simple objects and materials, through finger, glove and tabletop puppets, to the most complex string marionettes, a variety of techniques was introduced in order to show how the combination of design and movement produces the illusion of life. This introductory workshop touched (among other topics) upon the questions of the anatomy of abstract and figurative puppets; the basic distinction between inanimate objects, props, masks and puppets; the complex relationship of puppet and puppeteer; and the language; of puppetry. The aim of the seminar was to provide participants with an overview of the fundamental principles of puppetry by allowing them hands-on experience with different techniques and offering an insider’s view into the workings of the puppet theater.
