This workshop invites participants to explore their bodies and voices as unique instruments of artistic expression. Participants will be guided through a variety of exercises, encouraging them to complete different tasks to help discover their own unique instrument–voice and body sounds–in the process. Participants will be encouraged to create their own improvised vocal storytelling using the sounds they uncover. A special focus will be placed on revisiting childhood memories or emotions associated with specific moments, using sound as a form of time travel. Through this, participants will present brief solo vocal improvisations. They will also explore ways to harmoniously blend their sounds with others, working within small and large groups.
The focus of this workshop is to encourage participants to break away from conventional vocal habits, practices, biases, and singing lyrics written in language. It aims to help participants redefine their understanding of the concept of voice in creative and innovative ways. Participants will be encouraged to release emotional discomfort or unease by expressing it vocally, freeing any mental or emotional blockages. The workshop aspires for this process to serve as a form of potential sound healing. It is open for anyone interested in exploring their own artistic expression and does not require a background in music, performance or vocal training.
