Dramaturgy attempts to make a theatre-performance coherent, interesting and relevant. In many cases (though certainly not always) a dramatic text is the starting point of a production and the dramaturge’s work begins with text analysis. Pam’s workshop looked at four different methods of doing this, in relation to historical period, types of texts and artistic choice.
Theories of analysis were presented, explained and then applied to dramatic texts. This was followed by practical application, using actors to demonstrate specific points. Some of the ideas presented were illustrated using audiovisual material.
