Hussein Baydoun

Mentor of Scenography

Lebanese artist and scenographer Hussein Baydoun, based in Beirut, is celebrated for his distinctive approach to production design, where space, material, and narrative hold equal weight to the script. Known for transforming raw materials such as metal and concrete into striking sets, he has collaborated with renowned filmmakers including Nadine Labaki, Ziad Doueiri, Mai Masri, and Elia Suleiman.

His theatre work spans regional and international stages, from Avignon to Tokyo. A member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 2019, Baydoun’s designs have received international recognition, including awards at the Venice and Alexandria film festivals and nominations at the Lebanese Motion Picture Awards.

Within the Premières II program, Hussein Baydoun worked closely with the scenographers and directors to refine the visual concepts of the productions. His mentorship focused on developing scenographic thinking that integrates material, space, and dramaturgy while remaining feasible within the production context.
