Lighting design for artistic performances is both a technical skill and an artistic discipline in its own right. French lighting designer Camille Mauplot’s workshop looked at lighting design as an art first, then considered the technical savoir-faire required for its practice. In doing so, the artist provided a general introduction to electricity and optics, before guiding participants through the key stages of artistic design, from conception to realization. The introductory sessions took place in Studio Emad Eddine, before moving to Rawabet Art Space for the practical portion of the workshop, so that participants could get the chance to put their newly acquired skills to practice on an existing set design
