Tabli Cairo is a specialized training program dedicated to empowering and developing female percussionists in Egypt. Through intensive workshops led by renowned instructors Sabrine El Hossamy and Hany Bedeir, participants will deepen their technical skills, explore diverse rhythmic traditions, and refine their performance capabilities. This initiative aims to build a strong community of female percussionists, fostering artistic growth, cultural expression, and professional opportunities in the field of Middle Eastern percussion. The program will conclude with a final showcase to present and celebrate the participants’ learnings and achievements

WHO CAN APPLY 

Age: 15-30 

At least 1 year of professional experience 

Preference given to Darbuka players, but other percussion instruments are also welcomed.

Sabrine El Hossamy: is an Egyptian-French-Syrian multidisciplinary artist and the first professional female percussionist in the Middle East, breaking barriers for women in the field. Her music fuses jazz, world, experimental, and electronic sounds, and she is among the few global masters of the split-finger technique. 

She has performed internationally, toured Turkey, played at the Cairo Opera House, and released albums including Darbuka Heat (2010) and Conversations in Rhythms (2014), along with several singles. 

In theatre, her piece Ya Sem (2015) addressing women’s harassment won the Egyptian National Theater Prize, and in 2018 she created Albi, blending Darbuka, Kalimba, voice, and electronic music. 

She founded Dom Tak Cairo in 2016, the region’s first rhythm school for women and young percussionists. 

Since 2020, she has expanded into film, creating Men Wahy Hathor (2021) and Dandara (2024), and composing for the acclaimed documentary Cairo Drive. Her film work has received awards including Best Film Under Development at Luxor African Film Festival. 

Hany Bedair: with over 35 years of experience beginning at the age of 16, is one of Egypt’s most celebrated percussionists. He is renowned for his mastery of Oriental, Khaleeji (Gulf), and Latin percussion instruments. His career includes collaborations with more than 15 internationally acclaimed maestros and performances alongside over 100 global superstars—singers, musicians, and artists—in over 40 countries. 

Hany’s expertise extends to percussion sight-reading and writing music sheets for percussion, showcasing his versatility and technical proficiency. He has performed across all music genres, from classical to contemporary, bringing an exceptional level of artistry to every performance. 

In addition to his remarkable stage career, Hany has over 25 years of experience in music education, mentoring the next generation of percussionists. Furthermore, he handcrafts his own Riqq instruments, reflecting his deep passion and commitment to preserving and innovating traditional percussion.
